Four types of confession I only know and have heard of three types: 1) Self-Confession in case of an emergency and no priest is available to hear. Generally saying prayers of forgiveness is done. 2) Confessional confessions - done in church with a priest hearing confession 3) Confession at Last Rites for forgiveness of sins at time of death.

There are not four types of confession in the Catholic faith. There are four STEPS to making a good confession, and there are the exceptional circumstances mentioned earlier by Zenheart. four steps: examination of conscience, listing of sins to the priest, true repentance and contrition, and performing the penance given to you. Hope that clarifies it.
