A friend of mine once phoned in the middle of the night and begged me to go over there. Problem was it was snowing and icy and below zero, she lived an hour's drive away (in good weather!) and I had a husband and kids to think of too. I told her that I couldn't go but assured her I cared for her and that we would talk tomorrow, or I would drive over then. I explained the dangerous road conditions and mentioned my family commitments. I asked her not to do anything impusive and said she's feel differently tomorrow. I felt bad but I realized that I couldn't encourage a dependancy and that I couldn't control someone else's life. She didn't do it, but nor did I sleep a wink.

If you really think they are going to do something, then call the local police in the area and get them to check in. But you can't feel guilty. chances are that if they have said something, they won't go through with it, but call the police if you think they might.

G'day zzz, Thank you for your question. I would contact the police and/or mental health authorities in the area. I would even look at driving over to see him if you possibly could. Two hours is not that far away. Regards

I would call the police and send them to his house.
