Yes when I was a kid on Saturday afternoon there were Lone Ranger and 3 stooges shown to get people to go during the day. This was in 1973 or 1974 and some of the films were in black & white.

I took film courses at school, and the classes utilized a full screen. Best way to watch Hitchcock, Welles.... awesome stuff.
