i think you may be a tad confused.the mic you talking about is actually mac.its just the way some people say it.i might be wrong but i think mac can be irish or scottish.i think its a celtic thing which cover both.

Scottish and Irish are closely related languages. In both, until recently, there were no surnames, only names that indicated your descent eg son of, clan of The other thing you have to take into account is that both were largely illiterate peoples until recently (not that they did not have written languages- they did, long histories of written literature, but most people could not read or write) and so, the writing down of names was often left to church officials who had no idea how the name was spelt, and wrote it the way they heard it. So Mac and Mc, meaning "son of" in both Irish and Scottish are the same thing. But you can sometimes tell which is Scottish and which is Irish by looking at WHO the name is the son of. eg MacDonald will be Scottish, because Donald is a Scottish name, while McNeill is almost certainly IRish in origin, because Niall is an Irish name.

The "Mac" in Scottish surnames means "son of". In Irish surnames, it is usually written "Mc". Same meaning. Irish also has other prefixes designating "son of" or "from": O', and Fitz-.

Lately it has become more of a religious thing with Mac being protestant and Mc being Catholic (one reason Catholics are called Micks or Mickeys)
