It could be something like a thorn or something stuck in his paw. I don't think you are ever supposed to give dogs ibuprofen.

No do not give your dog any human medication. Dogs require their own formulas. You can get dog pain reliever at the pet store or the vet. My dog pretends to limp. When we throw a ball, he runs after it without limping. Be sure you check very carefully for any thorns, stickers, or cuts in his paw. If you find nothing, give it a few days to get better, if it doesn't go away, take him to a vet.

My 9 year golden just had this problem, only was favoring rear leg. No ibuprofen! I think you can give aspirin, but check with your vet re: this and proper dosage. Check leg for any lumps and note if gentle pressing on any spots makes the dog pull the leg away. Keep dog from overusing - no running, playing, etc. If it doesn't get better in a few days, see the vet - you may need an x-ray.
