Honestly I think you should contact your Veteran support services... they might have a hook up that maybe can provide an attorney pro bono.

Tell your creditors that you are a 100% disabled veteran and am still trying to climb out of a mountain of debt graciously left to me by my ex, and if they play hard ball with you, that you will play hard ball with them.
Inform them that while you are willing to pay back on a reasonable schedual, your capacity to pay it all immeditely is quite limited--perhaps nonexistent.
Inform them, that there are no debtor prisons in America--haven't been for quite a while in fact. Also, I believe that Texas law is generous to debtors--not as good as Florida, but better than California.
I recommend that they read this article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shay%27s_Rebellion about veterens in similar distress 200 years ago.
Be civil, but not intimidated--such is their tactic.

My husband owes back taxes. We were married at the time but not living together. Am I responsible for the taxes since we filed together last year. We are now in seperate residents again.

You're reading I need a really good tax lawyer with a killer instinct, but I am a 100% disabled veteran and am still trying to climb out of a mountain of debt graciously left to me by my ex, so I cannot afford to pay very much. Suggestions?

Agree. There are many organizations supporting Veterans. Try the VA and your state's equivalent department.
