  • Isn't it just on Benjamin Franklin?
  • Easy. Take a really long metal rod. Hold it up in the air - it's important you have it in your hand. As soon as there is lightning you will be the very first to know.
  • You probably need to be a little more specific regarding the application. What is it exactly that you want to use this thing for? Do you just want to built a lightning rod that will let you take some data on lightning strikes? Is it for a plane? Tell me what you want to use it for, and I may be able to help you...
  • i need to know how's modern lightning detector work? something like boltek or something... is that true if u detect lightning based on radio signal?
  • I don't know exactly how thy're doing it, but here's what I'd do... (This is just a block diagram, I could probably throw together a more detailed schematic, are you trying to build a homebrew lightning detector?)
  • Yes, i've Googled lightning detectors and got several design types. I haven't built any yet, but they appear to work.
  • V__________________________(o o)__________|> Long wire antenna 60ft+ Neon bulb Ground stake Long wire 20awg antenna, longer the better Neon bulb (90V) - Radio Shack Ground stake - copper grounding spike This schematic appeared in a 1970's radio project book and despite its simpicity it really does work, when storms are close the neon flashes in sympathy with the lightning strikes.
