There are several ways you can determine your metabolic rate. But I usually take these two. For, they are convenient and accurate enough. BMR calculators found online are a nice, free way of getting a reading on your actual BMR (basal metabolic rate). And the crude way that everyone should know how to do to determine if you have high, medium, or low metabolism is describing how your body gains and loses weight. Those who can't seem to gain any weight have the highest metabolism. Metabolism is determined by how easy it is to lose body fat, versus how easily it is gained. Those who have a more difficult time losing weight have medium metabolic rate, and those who don't eat much at all and are still plump haved abysmal metabolism. I have 1420 Cal/day BMR. It sucks. People don't get that many people who are overweight just can't lose weight. I haven't been to a McDonald's in 1 and 1/2 years. The last thing I bought there was a medium fries.

A crude tape measure will do the trick. Check body measurements regularly. A low metabolic rate will lead to increasing measurements over time.
