  • Rubbing-alcohol-it to death. It'll look flaky and nasty after a while, so resist peeling it! If you're staying IN, try keeping a dab of white toothpaste on it too. It'll harden up, but will soften in the shower. Don't pick!
  • Abreva works wonders. If you don't have any, then campophenic is good.
  • If you get them frequently, take one L-lysine tablet each day. This isn't a drug; it's an amino acid, readily available with the vitamins (etc.) in the supermarket. When the body's natural L-lysine level drops, the cold-sore virus seizes the opportunity and you get a cold sore. If you take L-lysine daily, mostly you won't get cold sores at all, and if you get one, it'll be less serious and of shorter duration.
