  • Can opinions be right or wrong? In my opinion, the best meal in the world is a hot dog. You may like something else better, but does that make my opinion 'wrong' or 'false'?
  • I'd be glad to answer that, OK? If it is your opinion that all children should have their throats slit, then that is your opinion. I see no reason stated as to why you think that they should. Most would agree that slitting of children's throats would be wrong, however you are entitled to your opinion. If you act on it, though, you will suffer the consequences of your acts, and in the opinion of most, you'd be considered the scum of the earth. As far as the donut thing? That's science. Science is fact, and can't be done through opinion or consensus. Al Gore claims that the world is warming, and has a consensus of scientists and others who will back him. That doesn't make it true, as science is fact, and can't be changed by vote or opinion. The world has long been proven to be an orb, and not warming to the degree Al Gore claims. In my opinion, deemikay is a very intelligent man and a total class act. Now who can disagree with that opinion?
  • I think many people are more than comfortable telling others that their opinions are not only 'right, wrong, etc', but also to tell people that their opinions have no value. There are obviously some opinions that are truly radical, and opposite the view of most (as in your comment to simply99). When someone suggests an opinion that welcomes harm to children, for example, MOST people would be comfortable in saying that opinion is wrong.
  • An opinion isn't true or false, it's an opinion. But there is a difference between giving an opinion and saying a statement. Now a statement can be right or wrong, or true or false. An opinion is only a personal belief doesn't have solid proof and can't be judged one way or another. YOu saying the world is shaped like a doughnut is a statement, not an opinion.
  • Let's see... Opinions are simply someone's perspective or belief about something. There is no "right" or "wrong", just whether one tends to agree or disagree with it. Anything absolutely true or false is not open to discussion. There is no "opinion" or belief involved. It is what it is. Now, to propose what "most people" are wary of saying is opinion. Unless one surveys a large number of people, who knows for sure?
