No, I was born in a good hospital, and I am lucky I was born in there, because I would have died if I had been born with a midwife. I was born with a gastroschisis, a defect that caused me to be delivered basically with part of my intestines on the outside of body, and that's something I midwife would not have been able to fix. It would have been beyond any common person's head... I would have died in a few hours.

i have not had the experience but heard alot about it. my friend said it's more comfortable then a hospital. the midwife made her feel more comfortable. she did not do the tub birth she did it naturally in a bed. the midwife knew exactly what to do to deliver the baby.

in the uk you have 2 midwives present at a home birth (this is law) and only if absolutly nothing went wrong in pregnancy and they prefer if the mother has experience (meaning second time or more giving birth). other wise you normally have a hospital birth also with a midwife a doctor (specialist/can also be a consultant midwife) is only present when there are complications at the birth or indicated in pregnancy. i had the joy of experiencing both enviorments (hospital and home) and i absolutly would choose to have a homebirth again. it was great so much more relaxed and cosy. i gave birth naturally to my second child (girl) in my living room with 2 midwives and my husband present. loved every minute (not including the pain, which wasn't that bad this time round).
