I don't think they have been coached to say specific things, but, I do think if they watch the show on a regular basis, they know what things are "triggers" and will get Dr Phil excited, or what things he is against, and would not respond well to.

Yes. Most of those shows have nothing to do with anything but ratings. They put on the best dramatic show they can to get people to watch. I am sure they coach the guests before they will let them on stage.
