  • I don't know if you have already done this or not, but I just bought a new router and wireless card. Make sure that you run the cd's that came with the router, and you should have another disc that came with the card. The disc's will give you all the instructions that you need, to install both your router and card. I hooked my router up yesterday, just to see if it would still work with my old card, and it did. I am going to install the card sometime this afternoon... BE SURE to read ALL instructions, and you should be up and running in no time. I also bought a linksys router and card..Good Luck..
  • What I'd do is first, plug the computer directly into the router and get it working that way (Computer to Internet). Then worry about the wireless setup after that. Basically the cable modem should be plugged into the WAN or Outside port of the router, then you just need to configure the wireless - WEP keys etc. Do yourself a favor and log into the router, change the default passwords etc, set your own encryption key, and if it supports it, you can set the router to only allow your computer to connect. That'll (probably) keep anybody else from using your bandwidth. Just get the MAC/Hardware address of your wireless card (ipconfig /all from a cmd prompt) and put that into your router, it's probably under Access Control Settings or something similar.
