Chilton's lists the initial timing at 8 Deg. before top dead center, and the plug gap at .042-.046. There is usually an emissions sticker located under the hood that lists this info.

Darry161 is right my 78 250 has a modified in it but i changed out the mod. heads and put Clevland 4V heads and flat top piston with a 400 crank and a few other thing to make my engine have 467 horsepower on the dyno. you could do the same
