  • yes but you and i couldnt afford it yet
  • in testing they are up to 8mpg...but that is testing in ideal conditions... thereare many, many ,variables in fuel mileage. type of trailer(a flatbed will get better mpg than a van) terrain traveled weight of load even weather conditions(a tailwind is much preferable than a headwind) what percentage of run time is spent idling
  • I've been a long-haul trucker for 51 years (no kidding) When I started rigs were getting almost the same MPG they get today. All the air-dynamic gizmos have added squat to the efficiency.
  • The aerodynamic Volvo Freightliner and the IH trucks are very good for fuel economy. The IH gets the best milage. Automatic transmission save about 1 MPG or more but cost more when purchasing a truck. Automatics reduce insurance rates and driver fatigue. Some drivers have an ego that demands they have a manual transmission. Some want the long nose antique style tractors which are fuel guzzlers. This is where ignorance prevails. They are losing thousands of dollars each month in higher fuel and insurance costs all so that they can use their tiny brains to control the shifting while not paying attention to traffic around them. I persoinally believe the long nose tractors are bought to make up for a shortfall in length of another body part because it makes no economic sense at all to buy such a inefficient, low tech design.
