Yes, that makes sense. if they change it to "world idol" then everyone would be able to participate.

Can't Americans idolize foreigners? The French idolized Jerry Lee Lewis, lots of countries idolized the Beatles, plenty of foreigners idolize Hollywood stars. I see no reason why you idol should come from your country.

I don't think its important. As long as Americans idolize the performer then it works.

Considering the amount of talent (or lack there of) on the show this year, they need to find an idol where ever it comes from.

Just because they originate from another country doesn't make them less american.
