Do you limit the number of dinner party guests to the number of place settings you have?

No, I'll find a way to make do to invite everyone I want to come.

Nope. That's why it's always a good idea to have 2-3 sets. You can alternate the plates, creating a pattern and it still looks good. Everyone can come!

No, I usually limit them to the number of people I can sit comfortably at the table. During the indoor months that would be 6 - 8. During the summer we can do a lot more people (up to 30)

I sometimes limit it to just a few so we can visit better and really get to know each other, maybe a new couple of friends and some well known friends so we all learn and grow. And then other times, I'll borrow dishes from family and we'll have lots of people.
