At what level of akwardness or offensiveness is it to call your cat a 'pussy' in public?

My cat does not go out in public. So, no prob here.

I remember mentioning a cat that way after about 4 margaritas. And it wasn't mine, it ran out in front of us as we were walking back to our dorm rooms and we called it a pussy on hoof. I thought it was funny at the moment but I wouldn't shout it in the bank if i saw the same thing out the window.
