I can only answer for myself: I'm not on the top 20 and I'm for it or at least a reduction of the points given to each mod.
-
When I was for the mod points, people hated me for it. Now that I'm no longer for the mod points, people STILL have nice things to say. A clear case of damned if you do, damned if you don't. Grow up. EDIT: I've said in the blog and on my profile that I'm more than willing to get rid of ALL of my more than 110,000 mod points and fall from rank number 3 to rank number 15. Imagine that: 110,000 points! And I'm not even asking for an across-the-board removal. Just my mod points. All of you can have the mod points I don't have any need for it.

*snicker* I was waiting on someone to notice that. No, despite the fact that almost every user who is on the leaderboard for moderating thinks mod points should be banished, I (suprisingly) don't find it hypocritical. The reason is that the users who are in the top twenty or so of all time for moderating are also some of our most interesting and intelligent users. They don't get ALL their points from moderating, and most genuinely don't care about their points total. Some users genuinely hate seeing spam and duplicates. Others can't bear to see a question in the wrong category. These users keep the site user friendly and clean, and by actively saying that mod points aren't their motivation are showing that they care about the site, not the points.

I'm not in the top 20, but I am in the top 40. However, I don't moderate just to get points. I mostly flag Q&A that I find offensive. I've had a few of my own Qs removed for being duplicates...and they may have been about the same subject, but not the same question. And yet, I've flagged a few for being dupes that were almost word for word the same Q, and the flag was rejected for not being "exact." Oh well... There are always going to be those who are rude, obnoxious, and verbally abusive...and that's what I'm usually flagging. Sadly, there is a lot of it if I have the points I do for moderation.
-
I have no idea..I just flag to keep the site clean and reduce duplication and I will flag insulting obscene material. I don't know..I am not in this for the points..I am in the top 20..I didn't get most of my points through moderation..but I would like to keep the system as clean and sleek as possible..I don't want duplicate questions everywhere, for example. I can't be seen as hypocritical because I really don't care.
-
Perhaps it is because they are the only people who even bother with mod points in any way at all.
-
I am in the Top 20 at the moment, and I could care less whether the mod points are removed or not.

So one question doesn't do what you want, so you try another tact? Interesting. I think you will find that a LOT of people don't DO mod points... They will ask and answer dupe questions, I have found many I believe to put questions in the wrong categories to have friends or themselves on another account get the mod points for recatting them, etc. Removal or reduction of mod points is NOT going to stop modding. Do I like points? Sure... I'm not gonna lie about it. Shows me that people think my answers are good. HOWEVER, if I get them for modding, it shows me I've flagged the dupes, nonsense, spam, and refiling correctly. If not, oh well. Personally, I was surprised to find myself in the top 20. I would do the same even if I got no points. The idea is to keep the site as clean as possible. (BTW: I notice YOU have more mod points than I do...) #2 on the all time list is advocating removal of his/her mod points. While supporting removal of these points, I don't believe they were the one who originally asked for it. So, you ARE wrong about this. Again, though, you are trying to rouse the rabble by pointing out things YOU think. All I have to say is GO FOR IT... GET YOUR OWN Q&A site, and run it the way you wish if you don't like the way things are handled here. (What's your beef with certain people on this site? Because they don't believe as you believe? BOY would AB be boring or a HUGE cat fight if that were the case.) So, no... You are not the ONLY one who finds things odd (I find THIS QUESTION odd, myself), but you are the only one who seems to have a personal vendetta against some of the longest running, most active, and treasured members on this site. I fully EXPECT this to be DRed as my prior response to you was... by, I'm sure, you and one of your cohorts.

I am now only flagging the worst of the worst and am using the feedback link to do the lions share of reporting trolls and spammers. I guess I will continue to flag for recategorization... I do not know. I am waiting for the removal or lowering of mod points. I would be just as happy with ME not getting mod points and everyone else getting the regular 5. With me AB had the opposite of the desired effect by making that leaderboard. I do not care who gains levels by mod points. This is MY choice but I do not care who does.

What I find odd is that this is such a big issue for you. This is a website, not a job. Whether they got their points from flagging things that needed flagged, or from getting points for Q&A's, WHO CARES?? Are you going to target everyone in the top 100 until you hit number 1 instead of 101? Why not put forth some effort in asking DECENT questions or answers instead of stalking and harassing other members here? Personally, I think you need time in the PB to think about how it feels to be targeted. It isn't cute, it isn't funny, and it needs to stop.
