  • no Sikhism is against this act
  • i don't believe it would be common place due to lack of education in the community. further more, the lack of conversation between parents and children about fertility and related topics may affect an individuals perception of the practise. In the past sperm donation for renumeration may have been looked at negatively. In Canada present day...sperm donors are no longer paid for their donations. There are strict regulations around who is accepted to be a donor by the sperm banks. Infertility affects about 15% of couples and many of those couples are indo-canadians. I think it would be a great advantage to have some sikh sperm donors so that sikh families who are childless can also have chance at having a baby with the same race and looks as the prospective parents. In terms of religion...i don't believe children are born with a certain religion...it is acquired through parents and the way children are taught. That is why many adults choose to be athiests.
