Actually, more like a "lottery scam" spam email. DO NOT send them anything, especially money. You will never see it again. (Now, though, the scammers at LEAST have an active email account who they know may fall for it.) It helps if you look at where the email came from. Many come from or are related to Nigeria, no matter WHAT the email says. And, if you sent them your personal info (bank account number in which to deposit your winnings, etc. - sometimes per the request), they can clear your account any time they wish. (See http://www.orangefrogproductions.com/ofp2s_scams_home.shtml for examples of real emails. If you receive anything that pretty much remotely resembles these, it's most-likely an attempted scam.)

spam and here alittle e-mail saftey tips: RULES FOR E-MAIL 1. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW THE SENDER, PUT A CHECK MARK IN BOX AND MARK AS SPAM AND DELETE 2. IF THERE IS NOTHING IN THE SUBJECT AREA, AGAIN PUT A CHECK MARK IN THE BOX AND MARK AS SPAM AND DELETE. 3. IF YOU RECEIVE AN E-MAIL AND THE MESSAGE AREA THE IS ONLY AN ATTACHMENT, AGAIN CHECK MARK IN THE BOX AND MARK AS SPAM AND DELETE. THESE ARE THE MOST COMMON WAYS FOR SPAMMERS TO SEND VIRUS AND SPYWARE THOUGH THE E-MAIL SYSTEM. ANOTHER THING IS IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE, CHANCES ARE IT IS! MARK AS SPAM AND DELETE. THERE IS A WEB SITE THAT YOU CAN CHECK OUT MOST E-MAILS THAT KEEP SHOWING UP OVER AND OVER TO SEE IF THEY ARE TRUE. http://www.snopes.com also called the urban legends site.

You've got spam, but more specifically, it was a PHISHING scam. I assume they wanted your bank account info in order to wire you the funds?

Unfortunately I had a (now ex)step dad who sent $3,000 to someone because they needed the money "to process it fast". Uggh. No offense but I fail to see how anyone could fall for such an email scam! WTT and fund the terrorists yanno? lol!

Absolutely. My advice is not to open any email if you don't personally know the sender.
