My boyfriend is having herpes-like symptoms (cold sores, fever, but nothing in the genital area). I have never tested positive for herpes. Is it possible that he was infected by a previous partner and never had an outbreak till now?

well herpies is caused by a virus and usually there must be contact to contract cold sores, another name for herpies, i have never heard of anyone getting herpies without some sort of one-on-one contact, u can ask any doctor. you can get herpies on any part of the body that come in contact with an open active sore.

There are different TYPES of herpes (Symplex I and II come to mind quickly). Not all herpes is genital herpes.

    Read this info http://www.edgarcayce.org/health/database/health_resources/herpes_Zoster.asp
but know that almost all children and young adults get cold sores, and campho Phenique I think it is spelled will relieve these. (if it is in the mouth.) It is a from having the flu that causes a lack of eliminations if a virgin has it. I am not a doctor, but have known this since I was a child and everyone seemed to get it (cold sores) in our family of 6 kids, and we were definitely virgins!

He has to get tested to be sure that it isn't the serious form of herpes.,,,short story... When my daughter was small about 10months, the two of us got this really nasty stuff...I don't know how, and I don't remember having a fever...I was not sexually active, and have never had any type of std...I had to go to a doctor because it was nasty,,,,beyond a cold sore..I was like, what the hell is this?. The doctor was acting like it was no big deal, but I was almost hysterical. ...after we were tested..it turns out that we had the herpes virus...the one that comes out as a cold sore...she had a cold sore on her lip...but it turned into something extremely ugly for both of us, and it was a one time thing....but for about a week, I was saying what the hell!!!!

Absolutely! My best friend just found out she has it, her husband doesn't, they've been married (and exclusive) for 20 years. She thought she had it before she got married, but was told she did not. 1 in 4-5 people have genital herpes. Don't freak over this, he is likely not cheating on you.

There are two different types of herpes, don't know the scientific names for them, so ones is oral, and is genital, and the oral one can be "upgraded" to genital through oral sex, I think it's like 80% of people that will be infected with it, once you have it, you have it for life, the outbreaks(cold sores) happen when body is out of balance, stress, or being sick (flu). You can catch the virus many different ways, drinking from same cup like someone who had and outbreak, or using some silverware etc etc etc...
