Squats are excellent. I've always did them, in a combination of bodyweight only (no weight added), heavyweights (weight added with a barbell), and lower weights, with the reps varying throughout. I should stress, this is an excellent workout for your butt, you will feel sore after doing them properly, but they won't make it look great. If you want a smaller, firmer, defined butt, you'll still have to lose fat through a good diet and exercise.

I pick dimes off of the floor with my glutes every other day.5 bucks worth will give you a decent workout.
