We were well down that path when main stream articles started coming out about it right around the turn of the new Millennium. The earliest uses occurred during WWII, The Cold War made disinformation a recognized military and political tactic all through the last half of the 20th century. Disinformation techniques may also be found in commerce and government, used by one group to try to undermine the position of a competitor or consumer.
