What is a household method for getting rid of black ants? The house is clean, there is no open food anywhere. Its just the area and type of old house it is.

Believe it or not, cucumber slices work. Put them in the areas that the ant trails go into walls, doors or windows.

I don't know of any household methods, but there is a product called "Home Defense" that works wonders. I believe it's made by Ortho. You spray it around baseboards and doorways and the perimeter of your home and it keeps them away for 6 weeks. It's fairly inexpensive and is non-toxic to kids and pets once it dries.

Depending on the type of ants, Home Defense works very well. Terro is also a very inexpensive product that attracts the ants. You squeeze a few drops, they all come out to eat and carry it back to their home.
