• Oh, yeah? Well, I lived in a town so small we only had 3 1/2 - 5 1/2's. Ya couldn't get Slurpees there, only a half frozen, half mixed Slur. It was only open half a day, we had to guess which half.

• Same here Fun and most of them are run by Indian people so they open the long hours and stock a lot of lines. They run most of the post offices too.A hard working people .

• yes its true, very boring, some parts of kansas are hilly (youll see me airsofting where theres hills) but other than that theres nothing much to do.

• We live in Seattle, so I see three large mountains on the way to work every day (as long as we are not clouded or it's raining, so I guess I see the mountains once a week). My wife grew up in Hawaii, and then ended up in Kansas, then ran as fast as she could to Seattle. Very interesting mix. And she really has nothing good to say about Kansas except that western Kansas has some nice woodlands.

• yeah Kansas does have good hunting grounds wether its airsofting, paintballing or actual hunting. I came fron houston to here. THen in september im going to South CArolina for basic, Pennyslyvania for AIT and then Georgia for my base. By the time im done with all that ill be close to 20 so i would have been to 5 states my whole life. ~_~

• So you are heading to Ft. Jackson (I did a couple of weeks there for processing), I'm not sure what PA has for bases, what's your MOS? And you are going to be based out of Benning I am assuming. I spent 4 years in the Army, My MOS's were 96B, 98G, 11B, 11H. I was in a unit that required multiple specialties.

• 89B, ammunition specialist. Ft stewart after im graduated. Awesome, its great to talk to a vet. All of my family is still mostly active duty and all guys. Im the first female in the family to go to basic.

• I served in the mid 80's. I was a Tactical Intel Analyist with additional MOS's in languages and Infantry. I was one of those dumb asses you see sliding down a rope out of a Huey or Blackhawk at 200 feet because the jungle was to thick to get any closer. Central America was really beautiful but as the same time a complete dump. Thank you for your service. Remember this, basic is nothing more than a mind game. They are going to try to scare you and tear you as hard away from the world as you know it. When the Drill starts yelling, remember, he want's to break your will and see where your breaking point is. Never let them win.

• I know the mind games, my uncle was a drill in the marine corp though im sure they vary in the army. But im stoked for basic. Even though im gonna skip christmas and new years when im there all i gotta do is stand strong and take my beating so to speak. Im going in as a PV2 but im hoping in my 4 years make it to sergeant. MY parents werent happy that i enlisted with this war going on but its their choice if they want to stand by and support me.

• If I had kids I wouldn't want them to enlist at this time either. At least you know ahead of time that it's a mind game. And it is your choice to enlist, and I personally support your choice to do so. I don't support the war, but I will do anything it takes to support the troops. I hope the best for you.

• I dont support the war either but every generation weve had most of the guys in the fam were deployed wether it was WW1, 2 or desert storm. My purpose is to break the ice so ill be the first female deployed, at least in my family. At least you support the troops, the part of town i live in pracitally goes insane if you mention the military. And youre never a military hero, just another "paid killer". Im not looking for all that but i would like my family thats in the town when i come back from deployment to hug me not shun me.

• Something I learned about 25 years ago, you are you, you are not your family. I was the odd one in my family, but and the most successful as far as love, happiness and work. It took about 10 years for my family and I to get along after I left home. We now get along fine.

• yeah but i just wish theyd stand by me. My mother is beyond pissed about it and has disowned me and went as far with threatening emails, shutting my cell off ( i did myself after that comment and i got my own contract) and just over all stirring up shit. Though compared to her, im almost 19 and shes 43 and im way better off than her. And my morales and values are much better. To be honest im petrified of basic, i know how it works but all drills are different. So when you were enlisted was there anything shitty about the army? I keep hearing that the army isnt the best way to go from 16 year vets and they always got dicked over on promotions, bonus, etc.

• Awesome, i know theres good and bad to every branch but i always heard more bad about the army. In the end i think ill be glad ive done it to. Basic, deployments and training is gonna be hard but it should be worth it.
