Help answer this question below.
Not really hurt, but it does help me understand how much they're interested (or not) in what I'm teaching them.
Yes, sort of ... it hurts that they are hurting themselves by neglecting what is needed. As a self defense and health science instructor, I can tell when there is excessive practice, adequate practice, and less than adequate practice. I try to emphasize the difference between vague understanding and complete mastery and that the difference could be life or death ... it hurts me a bit to see that "this" student will not be the next grand master training students of his own and helping to both gather and spread both health and wisdom.
I like to ask my students if they have learned "today's" lesson well enough to be teaching it tomorrow ...
Not hurt, just irked - as it means I have to keep them behind after school in detention, and that takes away my free time.

That's good that you don't get hurt. One of my teachers told those of us who didn't do our labs one day that she was hurt that we didn't do our work. I don't think she should be hurt, though. She is a good teacher. She just gives way too much work!

Jenna - I teach Latin and Ballroom social dancing (Waltz, Tango, Salsa, Cha Cha etc...)
.
Anon - Yeah, some teachers are just like that. When I was in high school, I was always offending my chemistry teacher by not doing my homework. Then he'd just get mad when I'd ace the exams, anyway! haha.

Oh man. Good job on acing the exams. That reminds me of this guy I know. He does really good on tests and doesn't always do his homework. I don't know how he does it. Maybe he's just smart.

Yeah, that actually prompted my Chemistry teacher to set up a Mensa IQ test for me. I ended up scoring well enough to be a "genius", and Mensa threatened (yes, threatened) me to bring up my grades and join Mensa and do all that bullcrap. I, instead, graduated high school with a 1.7 GPA. Go me! :/
