If you're looking for an actually online service which runs out of a browser, then check out Writely (www.writely.com , now owned by Google) - it's more of a word processor but it's still fairly powerful. Alternatively, try AjaxWrite (from the mind of the person behind Linspire Linux and the original MP3.com, Michael Robertson) - it only works in Firefox but it is pretty powerful. Expect big things from them, they already have a suite (or sorts) of Ajax apps online, go check em out. Failing that, as others have mentioned, you have OpenOffice (but you have to download and install that) and a couple other alternatives - those listed above, however, are the ones that spring to mind the most.
