I hate to eat on an empty stomach, so I have a little something like a sack of White Castles or a Big Mac to soften the blow of dinner after almost an entire afternoon of nothing but Mountain Dew and Snickers. That's usually the time I think about dinner, while I can focus and be really serious about it. Sometimes over ice cream and pizza, I'll try to choose between lasagna and pot roast. Steak and baked potato is a good stimulant, and I usually pick a good dinner when I'm having some of that. I just finished linguini and have decided to pick up a couple of burgers on my way to grab some wings for dinner. It's all part of a circular process, I believe.

We who wish to be proper -- rolling our r's and pinkies in the air -- know that "dinner" is proper. But, hell, if someone calls it supper, I still eat!

Dinner can be served at anytime between 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm (Christmas Dinner or Sunday Dinner, for example) ... Supper is after 6:00 pm only ... it goes Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch, Dinner, Supper, Taco Bell

I actually use them both. But probably "supper" more then "dinner". +5

Here in the States, it may depend on where one is from. In New Orleans, for example, I've mostly heard "supper" from the native residents. I don't know about the rest of the country, but my experience is that "dinner" is the more common term. I use "dinner", having been told that "supper" is dinner that is served later in the evening. I'm not certain whether that is correct or not...but my Mom, who told me that, was a pretty smart lady. :-) I miss you, Mom...Dad and Sis, too. :-) +5
