For some it might be soul, collard greens maybe, but not watermelon and cornbread. It is Southern food favorites.

I've lived in the South all my life and I can tell you that is the very DEFINITION of soul food. Good eatin'!

Fried Chicken, Collard Greens (along with turnip and mustard) And some types of cornbread I would say yes. but I grew up in the North, and live in the south now, and to be honest, they really don't sell much Watermelon here, they sold more in Detroit. here they have some fancy little ones they sell.

I consider soul food as another word for comfort food. so for me, those things are not soul food. My idea of 'soul food' would be beans and rice, corn tortillas, enchiladas, chiles rellenos, ... And Spaghetti!

I experienced a lot of that kind of food while living in different areas of the South during part of my growing up years. I never considered it soul food, but it's definitely healthy food.

I would to some extent. I would put ham hocks, chitterlings, macaroni and cheese and yams higher on the list though. The church of a lady I work with sells box lunches on a regular basis and the ladies that do the cooking are older African American ladies. I am here to tell you they truly can tear up some yams, collards, and mac and cheese.

Yes, except I would put fried chicken under the category of bad for the soul food.

I consider that a perfect spread of vittles when the gut is grumbling. Fry up some possum and some muskrat, then you have soul food. :-)
