Well if you want a serious answer, I have to make some assumptions. 1) If Sam had a fixed start and end time for his work, you just have to calculate: [Arrival time] = [End time] + (60 miles)/ [velocity in miles per hour] So you could solve the problem if you know the End time and the velocity. Actually, it would be even easier to check when he comes home on another day. 2) If Sam does not have a fixed start and end time for his work, but a fixed work timem, as assumed, you have to calculate: [Arrival time] = [Departure time] + (8 1/2 hours) + 2 * (60 miles)/ [velocity in miles per hour] So you could solve the problem if you know the Departure time and the velocity. 3) This will work as long as Sam is working according to this. If Sam goes to work, feels bad and decide to come back home, there will be a problem.
