I want to mate my female chihuahua, and the male chihuahua owner wants to know if it is true that the male dog will get lazy after the female gets pregnant, or is that a myth? I have never heard of this but they have and it concerns them.

does the world need any more chihuahuas?? if you are going to breed your dog, you better be sure of the stud's pedigree and be up on all the ins and outs of dog breeding, genetic diseases, etc. you better how to know how to take care of your pregnant dog and be prepared for the costs associated with a hard birth. if the owner is concerned about laziness, do you really think he's a good person to be dealing with??

Any male animal that is being used for Stud needs to be on a good diet, one high in the correct and optimum foods for HIS SPECIES. Meats for a dog would be high on the list with appropriate and supportive nutrition...AND proper physical activities to promote optimum good health.

The owners of this Dog, based upon what you've shared, sound to me to me a few fries short a happy meal at best. Clearly THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT PROPER, RESPONSIBLE BREEDING PRACTICES.

What Titles does YOUR Bitch have that suggest you should breed her AT ALL? What titles does this Dog have? Do either of you show your dogs? Are you breeding to help create an IMPROVED puppy, one less prone to having problems that are often found in this breed, or improving the general temperament?

OR..are you just adding to the surplus population of great dogs and puppies that WILL BE put to death because of over population problems due to irresponsible breeding practices??? Which one are you going to be...because you can only be one of these two choices...there isn't a third choice for any of us.

We are either acting with intelligence and care or we are making an already existing problem WORSE.

If YOU are showing, have earned points and titles on this little girl and have proved she would add good things to the breed...DO CHECK OUT other options for your Stud Dog...these people are NOT up to the level of excellence you have proven YOUR bitch to be at.

Be sure you research the bloodlines...SIZE matters a lot with THIS BREED...either dog or bitch could have LARGER relatives that could throw a big problem or several big problems into the breeding that could hurt your girl upon whelping!

MY CHIHUAHUA DID NOT GET LAZY BUT HE DID NEED TO REST A LITTLE AFTER HE FOLLOWED MY FEMALE AROUND WITHOUT ANY REST. SO LAZY NO BUT HE DID NEED A REST. HE IS FINE NOW 1 WEEK LATER. AND FOR THE JERKS LIKE THE PERSON ABOVE THAT THINK THEY ARE BETTER THAN ANY ONE ELSE. YOU NEED TO CHECK YOUR SELF AT THE DOOR. WE ARE ALL THE SAME IN GODS EYES. GET A LIFE, IF YOU HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO WITH YOUR SELF THAN CRITISIZE OTHER PEOPLE.
