this would be an urban legend of sorts. ears can't strain to hear things the way eyes can strain to see them. ears are passively stimulated by the vibrations of sound waves and therefore would be far more damaged by loud music. interesting idea though; i hadn't heard that one.

No. The damage is done by noise that is too loud. Then you can't hear the soft noises and must strain to hear them.

Any loud sounds will damage the ears. Quiet will have no effect.

You can't strain your ears trying to hear something. Just as trying to see something doesn't strain your eyes.
