  • Up until last week I pretty much 'poo-pooed' this area of healing. Then I picked up a book called THE BODY HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN by [the] Breaksley's (mom and son science writers). Very basically, its a book on 'brain mapping.' The brain has what is called a body schema. Okay: put your arms out to your sides, wide. The brain perceives not just your arm out there, but perceives all the space in between, like a 360 degree circle. Kinda like an 'aura' bubble. This 'space' allows your brain to perceive not only yourself, but what surrounds you so it may 'intuit' your immediate circumstance physically (that includes the mind by the way). So, it turns out that there is scientific proof that even when someone doesn't touch you literally, but 'hovers' over you, your brain 'feels it.' Your body then, is 'sensitive' to touch. We do know that human beings benefit from touching and hugging, its 'built in.' When someone is very ill or perhaps post-surgical they cannot necessarily receive a concrete hug of care. Swirling ones hands just above a wound site may indeed aid that person's sense of wellness.
  • I have experienced reiki. Reiki is a type of energy healing. A practioner places his or her hands in different positions on the body. The different people experience the energy in different ways. For me it is VERY relaxing. I can't really explain how it helps. It's like getting an soul adjustment (rather than a back one at the chiropractors). I know that may not make any sense. I enjoy it so much that I became a practioner and I hope to eventually work at a metaphysical healing center.
