  • Probably a hand-written one that no longer exists. But it seems logical that right after print-presses were invented, someone saw a golden oportunity to cash in by publishing a beefed-up version of it. Being that there were so many Christians out there, it was also financially wise to market it as "the word coming straight from God." As time went on, newer and improved versions came out by the dozen; profit-wise it turned out to be a good book to publish, and it probably still is.
  • The first printed bible was the Gutenberg bible, around 1455. All the ones before that were still handwritten. He was a printer who thought it would be a good idea to print bibles so people could actually have a copy for themselves as they were only in the hands of the churches, the only ones who could afford it. There was a big controversy as many clergy (archbishops) felt it wasn't safe or right for people to have the bible as they couldn't interpret it themselves and needed the clergy to do it for them. He was even sent into exile for what he did. Before being compiled like a book, the bible was just a series of scrolls for all the books, no chapters or verses, just name of the individual 66 books.
