WHy do people delete or alter comments after you've responded to them- hence making you look like an idiot or a flamebaiter?

Might be the same reason people re word their question to something else, making the person that answered look like a raving lunatic? Just a thought and please don't re word this question into " I just ate a cactus, could I be pregnant? "

This is why I include the comment in my response. That way, even if the comment gets deleted, later readers can see to what I am responding.
