Well, according to the Apostle Paul "All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness..." But to answer your question it will take a lot more explaining The Torah, or the first 5 books of the Bible, is said to be written by the Prophet Moses. Judges, Kings, and Chronicles is said to be written by the Prophet Samuel Proverbs is written by King Solomon while Psalms was written by David.. The Masoretes can be given credit for compiling the Old Testament as we know it. They preserved most of the OT through ancient scrolls written in Hebrew and some in Aramaic.

Each separate Book of the New and Old Testament was selected by Emperor Constantine and "Approved" by The Council of Nicaea. Those books that survived are in the Bible we all know and love, but those documents that did not fit with the Council's and Constantine's views were branded "Heresy" and ordered burned. Anyone who read or even possessed them was a "Heretic" and would be "Excommunicated" and burned at the stake. This part is history. I do not necessarily agree with the following conjectures, but offer Them for your consideration. "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown: http://www.danbrown.com/novels/davinci_code/ Characters in Dan Brown's book allege that: Constantine had just become Emperor of the whole Roman Empire and when he called The Council of Nicaea, to establish the new Official religion of the Empire, he wanted to legitimize central authority of Rome. The Pope and Bishops also wanted to legitimize central authority, but of The Pope and Bishops. They also wanted to stop interference in church affairs by lay people and especially women. Thus "The Gospel of Mary Magdalene" was Heresy, and is the major premise of the book. It is also allege http://www.uscatholic.org/2003/09/featb0309.htm that these hidden agendas biased the selection, and books like "the Gospel of Thomas, the Gospel of Phillip, the Gospel of Mary, the Gospel of Peter, not to mention the Secret Book of John, the Secret Book of Paul, the Apocalypse of Paul, the Letter of Peter to Paul, the Prayer of the Apostle Paul.",

There where many people used in the writing of the bible. But the official canonization or the list of books considered to be inspired writings of the Holy Spirit (the bible as we have it today) was started in 382 AD. At the council of Rome, in 393 AD at the council of Hippo N. Africa and in 397 AD. At the council of Carthage. The Pope and the bishops of the Catholic Church basically finalized the canon of Sacred Scripture in the late 4th or early 5th century.
