  • I had the same thing happen about 10 years ago in Texas. When I went to my first court date since it was my first offence, they let me pay the fine and court cost and dropped charges. I suspect that is what they will do to you. Mine was a 32 dollar check so I paid that, 200 bail 95 court costs. I learned at that time that its much cheaper to go pick up the bounced check rather than ignore it.
  • Well first of all I would get a defense attorney because I feel that you have a solid case in your defense. It looks like a case of negligent oversight on your part and clearly not a fraudulent action. I would contact the party in question that received the bounced check, explain the situation to them and make monetary amends to satisfy any debt. If you take all the right steps, you may have your sentence lessened to a non-misdemeanor offense and perhaps a fine along with corresponding court fees.
  • The authorized punishments for conviction of a misdemeanor are: 1. For Class 1 misdemeanors, confinement in jail for up to twelve months and a fine of up to $2,500, either or both. 2. For Class 2 misdemeanors, confinement in jail for up to six months and a fine of up to $1,000, either or both. 3. For Class 3 misdemeanors, maximum fine of $500. 4. For Class 4 misdemeanors, maximum fine of $250. This may not include balance of cheaque which may be added, plus court fee's..
  • They will make you pay the check back and the court cost. It will be high but hey, do not do it again. US is a Police country after all
