Unfortunately, you may never get over it. I broke a girl's heart almost 10 years ago and I will never feel ok about it. She hated me for years, and recently she looked me up and said that I shouldn't feel bad, we were different people then, and that she'd like to be friends and stay in touch now that we're older (she's now married with kids). It helped a little, but I still feel guilty. All I can say is to see it from their point of view. If someone broke your heart, you will get over it eventually. Just trust that the other person will get over it as well, and try not to be so hard on yourself. We all make mistakes, and sometimes doing what's best for yourself and your own life is something that hurts someone else. In the long run, it's probably best for everyone involved, though.
