The aluminum is said to alter the taste of sodas in cans versus the bottles. Here's an experiment, which discusses the differences in caron dioxide between the 2, which ultimately, explains why soda tastes differently in the can versus the plastic bottle: http://juliantrubin.com/encyclopedia/food/sodachemistry.html

I use to believe exactly as you do. the bottles tasted better than the cans. today, i really cannot tell the difference. i only drink diet-caffeine-free coke. i have tried to compare the differnce, but, there is none. it may make a difference in other drinks.

aluminum is a better heat(and cold) conductor than plastic, therefore the liquid reaches the tempature of its invironement in less time.... i dont know where i was going with this but...i prefer(not that anyone really wants to know but just incase) 591ml(medium bottle) is better than can(355ml) is better than 2litre(half gallon) bottle

My personal opinion: I have always found that Coke out of a plastic bottle tasted much fizzier than in a can. It also tasted more diluted. However when from a glass bottle I like it a lot more than in a plastic one. Whenever I am at a vending machine I always like to get the cans...no one should be drinking more soda than a can a day. So why should you ever get the 2 liter? Plus I like the way it feels to drink out of an aluminum can. :) can't really explain it...

im not sure but it could have something to do with the fact that light can get in the bottles whereas the cans are made of aluminum and reflect light. hope this helps :^D

aluminum cans are produced in a stamping process which uses a food-grade stamping lubricant. being food-grade, this oil is safe and non-toxic, so it is not cleaned off of the cans before filling with soda. if you look at the surface of the liquid in your soda can after opening it, you will notice an "oil slick" type rainbow effect on top. this is the oil residue from the manufacturing process. plastic bottles are manufactured through a blow molding process, and therefore do not contain the stamping oil.

i think its just the fact that you can save a bottled soda longer so it goes flat whereas when you drink a can you drink it faster because its smaller so it doesnt loose its fizz
