It seems as though "incest" has different meanings to different people. Some believe it includes step siblings and others, blood relatives only. The Sage, a dictionary program, defines it as "Sexual intercourse between persons too closely related to marry." I don't believe the scenario in your question meets any legal definition of incest that I've read or heard. Based on that, my answer to your question is no.

To anyone who wants to moralize the issue, you would be wise to wait until someone asks for that particular viewpoint. Just a suggestion.

Incest is a legal term, not a moral judgement. If the step-brother and sister have no blood relationship the answer is a definite NO. It isn't even incest to have sex with a cousin in most parts of the world.

I think it depends on whether they were brought up as brother and sister. If they were, then it is weird, although not *technically* incest. If they only became step-brother and sister at a later age, say in their mid to late teens, then that would be a lot more acceptable.

It is in my house. If you think of the other person as a brother or sister, that is incest. If you don't, then you wouldn't apply the sibling label in any way in order to ask the question.

My half-brother (my father's son) married my step-sister (the daughter of my father's wife.) My dad married my step-mom when I was in my late teens. A couple of years into his marriage, my step-brother came for an extended visit with them, and my step-mom's middle daughter started dating him. My dad was furious for a while. A year and a half later they got married, and since the family came to terms with it we were all very happy for them. I now have a beautiful nephew from the couple. My dad and step-mom wound up divorcing, so the soap opera continues. I just love the looks on people's faces, though, when I tell them my brother married my sister! It's hilarious! (To answer the main question, I don't think it's incest if they weren't raised from early childhood as siblings.)

technically, incest is ANY sexual contact (penetration or not) between people who have a close bond other than that of the traditional husband/wife (un-related partners). For clarity, look to the Jewish torah, they have a huge list of all that stuff (I'm not saying convert, I'm saying they have it reallly thorough)basically, anyone related to you, your sister, your mother, your father, your brother etc etc is an incestuos contact.

But don't count on me for authenticity, ask a scholar about that one.
OK...I think incest is any sexual contact between two people who have been brought up together, either as "siblings" under the same roof, parental figures or close-adults who are living in close proximity (save for if you are in a boarding house).

Someone closely connected to your family unit! So family!, any sexual contact with someone considered as "family" (consenual or not) is incest, in my opinion.

No, it isn't. But if you were brought up to think of each other as brother and sister, now thats a bit odd, to be honest.

Well I am not getting involved in the conversation. best thing is to let the two adults sort it out. Sometimes its better not to get involved, if you do, then you can have the mark on your conscience and regret. Look the other way and go on.

No, of they are full "step".. not "half" but full step sibilings... and they are over 18 and not living in the home together under their parents domain, it's just fornication, sex... whatever, but it does not constitute incest.

It might not be defined as incest, however, over the years the definition of family has changed to include many acceptable variations. I personally believe it's wrong for any adults who were raised in the same family household, as children or teenagers, to become intimately or sexually involved either during time lived together or outside the home. This simply because they were raised as brother and sister.

This would include step-siblings; cousins who live together under the same roof, who might also share bedrooms and / or bathrooms; or children who are part of the same family unit, for instance, their parents live together, with or without benefit of marriage, or maybe as friends and room mates for the financial benefit.

In addition, my description of incest is also any adult mother or father "figures" (girlfriends or boyfriends of the parent) having an intimate or sexual relationship with children in the house who belong to their partner. An example of this would be Woody Allen when he was the father-figure to a young adopted daughter of Mia Farrow. When Soon-Yi Farrow Previn was a teenager, Mia found naked pictures of her daughter and confronted Woody. He admitted his attraction, and Mia charged him with abuse. By the time all was said and done, Mia won custody of 2 adopted and 1 biological child she'd shared with Woody for a number of years. Soon-Yi, adopted only by Mia, and by then of age, moved out to be with Woody.

These actions destroyed a family unit. Woody got supervised visitation, however the children did not want to see him. His son disowned him, and changed his name. The judge told him he had inappropriate behavior but nothing really ever happened to the abuse charges against him and Hollywood never hase held it against him. Woody eventually married the girl and they adopted 2 children together. Woody is 35 years older. His actions were selfish. Soon-Yi lost the only family she's ever known because this father-figure took advantage of her.

My step brother and I are engaged and have been dating for 3 years. We live in utah which has some of the strictist rules about marraige and there is no law or anything stopping us from getting married.

I think the answer lies in the details. There are technicalities that are convenient rationale in many cases. I suppose that one could argue masturbation is incest, if I'm jerking off my mother's son.

Think of it this way: Jack and Sally are strangers. Jack and sally meet. Jack and sally have sex. No big deal. Jack and sally have sex again. No big deal. Jack and Sally's parents marry each other. Are Jack and Sally to stop having sex because their parents stood in front of a priest and signed some documents?

The main reason step siblings should refrain from having sex is the social problems it might create. You're not going to have retarded babies because of it. You're physically a couple of unrelated strangers.

I used to fuck my step-brother in the ass and get fucked by him all the time. We blew each other almost every night too as i was a teenager. I don't think this is incest because we weren't related. But it was still fucking hot!

what if the parents got married while the kids were late teens? and the kids were never raised together is that still incest?

  • by Cyttyn on August 23rd, 2011

    Cyttyn

I married 12 years ago and helped raise his 7 year old daughter. I in turn have 3 kids, 2 boys, and 1 daughter. They were raised with my mother and they came to visit during summers and holidays. (long story) any ways: Just finding out December 2010 my oldest son, who is now 26, and step daughter, who is now 22, have been having a relationship with each other for 11 years. And now decided that they want to be together. I have had my suspetion since Christmas because of how they fight and stuff. They admitted to me a few months ago that my thoughts were indeed true. But I tried to tell my husband and he didnt take it well at all. So I had to tell him that it was a joke. I know it was wrong but the anger he showed was a little scary. I have had a few months to accept it but I don't know if he would be ok with it. They are not blood and never forced to believe or have to accept each other as brother and sister. What can I do? My husband needs to know but his anger may hinder our relationship. Nor are my middle boy or my daughter is taking it well either. My mom and step father seems to be accepting it. Not to mention is it legal in Oregon. Indians do it all the time. Within their own tribe to keep the blood line. And That is a close as 2nd cousins.
