  • Because we are arrogant and feel like we are better than anyone else. We feel like it's our job to go set those Iraqis in their place.
  • They don't know us.
  • My whole thing is that it takes so much more energy to hate somebody than to tolerate (AKA ignore) them. I feel like, in general, we as Americans are more interested in what we are doing and aren't concerned with everyone else. It can't just be envy, that's silly.
  • Because they've always seen us as colonials who acted up, got off easily, but must some day be quelled and trade resumed with the Americas. Ruling the world and milking it for every last resource used to be THEIR job, and they've always resented us for our ascension over the European Powers. The United States and all it was founded on is anathema to the British mind. We are like barely tolerated buffoon cousins to them, but their wagon is pretty well hitched to ours now. They hate that.
  • blame it on the press and T.V. we get about the U.S. ... and we don't hate you Yanks at all .. we just sometimes shake our heads in wonder at some the crap you Yanks come up with ...like worring about locking up in goal(jail) people (kids) who wear their pants to low ...instead of helping your fellow Americans get proper affordable heath cover or helping out the people who have been put out on the street by the greedy banks ..so what do you do ...bail the banks out and screw the people and to take the cake allow your selves (again through greed) to sit on national T.V. hooked up to a lie detector for money ...even though you know its going to screw your life for good and make you and your families look lick f*ckwits!.... no we don't hate you just can't work out how the U.S. became a super power....lol
  • I think it's catagorising. Believe me. People have this idea that British people are snobbish and stuck up. But we also call the Americans yanks and red necks. Go figure. I think it's just silly. We arn't all bad.
  • I don't think British people dislike Americans. I do think that many British people dislike the current US administration. To dislike your President is not to dislike you. I have liked nearly all the Americans I have met.
  • I can't answer for "many British people", only for myself. I don't dislike Americans, in fact the only ones I have ever met have been very friendly and likeable. There are at least as many Americans who dislike the British as there are British who dislike Americans, and those who categorise an entire nation are far too insular for their opinions to be given any credence. We certainly all suffer from certain erroneous preconceptions - the British have this idea that all Americans are loud, brash and live on a diet of burgers and French Fries, and Americans have the idea that all British are either upper class twits or Cockney sparrers, have bad teeth and live on a diet of fish and chips.
  • Right, it must really suck how the US is portrayed in the media over there, though. Because whoever said that we lock kids up for having their pants down too low is a damn liar :)
  • Funny, cuz when I went to London they didn't seem to have a problem with me. I'm not only American but from NY. We have a bad rep all over...I attribute it to our 'hard' accent. It makes us all sound tough and angry a lot, when in fact it's just our accent.
  • cos americans pretty much come across as assholes, through politics and everything. plus your all kinda a bunch of self obsessed pricks, not in the sense that you love yourselves, but you think your country is the centre of the universe and no one else in the world matters p.s dont start ripping on me about not knowing americans cos im australian, because i lived in texas for 6 years of my life, and these are the results i got p.p.s come to australia, we love everyone, unless your one of those bastardised americans
  • Still bitter about losing the war and losing all the land America has while they are stuck on a damp and dreary island......just a theory:)
  • You wasted all that tea!! :)
  • I don't think that is generally true. Most British like Americans. I assume by Americans you mean US citizens? There are many other Americans.
  • They are envious. At one time, Britain was something. It ran an empire on which the sun never set. Now it is worse than nothing, a welfare state of a bunch of whiners. Rather than whip themselves back into shape, they point to their former colonies - especially the first major one to rebel and gain independence - with some air of superiority. Because they are so bothered by their own slip into inferiority, they continue to lash out at the greatness that is, and hopefully will remain, America.
  • LOL - Brits dont dislike americans - Theres good and bad in all countries, cultures etc, everyone should be treated individually not as a nation, if we did that we wouldnt get on with anyone, even people in our own country!!! x
  • Cuz they do football with their whole hands and armors!!
  • Because we left them?
  • I happen to like Americans BUT I am ENGLISH not British, that word offends me so bad! I have't a clue why some English people don't get along with you, are you sure you are reading them right?
  • i dont think british hate americans i seen many americans being fond of british acccent !!we brown indians r the one being hated everywhere :(
  • its not that we hate you. its that you dont know who we are, that you tell us what to do, then shoot us in iraq... but we dont hate you.
  • i like american people, but americans, as a people, i dont like.
  • Where do you come up with this drivel? Every English person I have ever spoken with is Cordial and friendly towards me. Maybe its just you acting like a buffoon. Don't generalize them and put them all in one group anymore than you do us.
  • im sure ive seen this question before! well i dont know where you got your info but if you come down to the real world for a moment. as an englishman, as apposed to being british(you can be of any race and be british), hearing negative comments on the yanks amongst the english is extremley rare, you can take it from me! god bless america!
  • I have a newsflash for you: it's not just the British. The world at large, including a growing number of Americans, dislike Americans because of what this country has become. I find myself ashamed to say that I'm American because of the atrocities that are being committed in my name and with my money. And that starts with the witch hunt on Muslims and the idiocy of Christianity and the stupidity of the Right Wing in general and the expansionism and unbridled imperalism
  • Many other countries dislike American because most of us have big mouths with no idea what we are talking about.
  • Because we are prettier, have better teeth, we dont smell, and are more intelligent.
