No we are having the same problem in the UK. I wish more Heads of State would have the guts that John Howerd the last Australian Prime Minister had. He told the immigrants that were moaning about Australian Traditions " If you do not like it here F*** of back to where you came from". That may sound harsh but if immigrants do not like our culture why would they wish to stay?

No, we should still put up Christmas trees. Wht not? We are in America, it is an American Holiday. I will still put up my tree, and say "Merry Christmas" to everyone I pass.
-
75% of Americans identify themselves as Christians. This is our culture and we have the right to practice and display it. We don't go to other countries and expect them not to practice their religion because of us, and minorities in America shouldn't come to the United States and expect a three-fourths majority to be dictated to by minorities from the grievance industry. Celebrating our own religious culture doesn't disrespect minorities. They are perfectly welcome to display their religious symbols, and in countries where they are majorities, they do.

I'm rolling my eyes here, honestly this is a null issue. It stems from the fact that a airport had christmas tree's up a year ago, and a jewish man asked for a Manora to be put up along side it. Instead of being reasonable and putting one up, the airport took down the tree's. I see nothing wrong with celebrating any holiday, I'm not a christian, I'm an atheist, but I celebrate Christmas anyway. Besides, Christmas tree's arn't even religious, Christmas isn't even a "christian" holiday. It was stolen form the pagans XD.
-
The putting up a Christmas tree is a totally pagan tradition and some religions took it on as their own religion. It is a custom of the times way before Christianity, and other religions celebrate putting up a tree as well.If they want to put one up in their houses that is their business.
-
i think each culture should be allowed to express their traditions as long as they weren't racist, sexist or cause violence.
-
Um... since when are Christmas trees an American tradition? I thought that came from Germany. I'd like to rephrase this question: Do you believe that someone should not be permitted to practice their cultural traditions due to the presence of people from a different culture? I think I can answer that one "no" unequivocally. If I (a Christian) am not permitted to celebrate Christmas because there are Jews present, and the Jews are not permitted to observe the Passover because there are Hindus present, and Hindus are not permitted to celebrate Diwali because there are Muslims present, and Muslims are not allowed to observe Ramadan because there are Christians around, what possible good does that do for anyone?

Since when is christmas an American holiday?
-
I think by all means, put your dang tree up. The more pride we have in our own religions, the less likely we are to be invaded by a bunch of radicals that have one goal in life: To kill us or convert us. </pointless rant>

The celebration on December 25th, comes from the Roman Empire. When they adopted Christianty, they kept some some of the old holiday dates as opposed to learning new ones. Christmas has never been just an American Holiday, but to address the question that I believe you are trying to ask... I have worked in business (Management)for the last 20 years and have seen first hand the strife of which your question eludes to. What we should do is this... As a company I am going to give you my employee 1 weeks vacation this yr. and the company will be honoring 12 days for holidays. Based on your culture and or religion, submit your 12 day holiday schedule to HR no later than January 31. In doing this your employees all get to schedule their own holiday time to match with their cultural and religious beliefs, and depending on the type of business, you may be able to schedule year round coverage and never have to shut down facility. In Manufacturing, Construction, Food Service, and many other Service related business, this could work very well.

Bah, humbug - let's all spend Christmas full of doom and gloom, miserable and full of woe.
-
Oh now that is just PC bullsh*t.
-
Uh, I feel like keeping my tree up all year long now!
-
christians should put up their christmas tree and not have to be offended when somebody says merry christmas instead of happy holidays. and every other culture should be able to put up some symbol of their religion without having to feel threatened. when did diversity become a bad thing anyways?
-
If you wanted to or not, no matter what one person does will offend someone. I suggest those of you that get so easily offended grow some skin and get over yourselves.
-
Christmas Trees are not an American holiday. It is a christian holiday, and you can find christian in every part of the world!!!!!!!!!!
-
Christmas is not an American holiday. In fact the tradition of decorating a tree for a festival centered around the winter solstice began in in Roman times far before the advent of Christianity. Therefore, your question itself is moot. The only "Amercan Holidays" are July 4th, Thanksgiving, MLK day, President's Day, Labor Day, Memorial Day, and there may be a few others I forgot. At any rate, I do not believe that Americans disrespect others by celebrating American holidays. We welcome others to celebrate these with us.

NO WAY! Put the thing up. Be Clark Griswald! It's bad enough they can't celebrate Christmas by putting up creshes(sp)/manger scenes/etc. on the courthouse lawns without threats of lawsuits by the ACLU... Can't say "Merry Christmas" in stores without being afraid of alienating anyone... Can't do this... Can't do that... because some a-hole somewhere didn't like it. (Ever notice it's the damn vocal MINORITY that gets the press? The vast majority could care less, or want the OTHER way, but because THEY are silent until that "freedom" is taken away by law, the are NOT covered by the media.)
-
no ...sorry but I find that just bullshit ...if you move to another country you MUST live by that countries rules and rituals ...you MUST be prepared to assimilate into that countries society ...nah put up the Christmas tree's and be damned
-
Ridiculous! We are primarily a Christian nation founded on Christian principals. If other cultures want to put up their own displays, who's stopping them? To those who don't like it, stop trying to destroy America!
-
huh?!?
-
Christmas is a christian holiday for one, also we should all be aloud to celebrate our different holidays with acceptance, no matter the creed...
