Usually bathrooms are tiled, so they have better acoustics. This adds a bit of reverb to your voice, which helps to mask a few of the mistakes. Also we are probably a bit more confident when we think no-one is listening!

Since you are alone, singing in the shower, how do you know you sound good? you are a committee of one and no other vote counts. Maybe, its the echo of the shower stall, maybe its running water, actually drowning our ears and not hearing quite as well. I will admit, that singing in the shower, does seem to make us an opera star. Like the song says, "it was just my imagination, running away with me"!

Because when you're singing in the shower, you have no one watching you (hopefully) so you shouldn't be nervous! Then the accoustics are good, and most have a radio in the back ground too

If your singing stinks outside of the shower, the chances are high it'll stink in the shower. Maybe, because a person is feeling so good in the warm (or cool) shower, their own ears are hearing with... "rose colored glasses."

I agree with most of these answers: It has to do with the confidence we get when we are alone and no one is listening. Plus how do we know we are good? (Like someone said)
