People assume many things..But please don't let them get to you.

Because of the flood of people who ask questions not to receive answers, but to push their beliefs on you. Eventually you might start seeing all opinion questions as such unless the questioner states their opinion. The moral of the story is this: Never talk to aQuib. Ever.

I know how you feel. I didn't realize how bad it was until I asked "Do you think Barack Obama could be the anti-christ?" Thought it would be interesting discussion, but most reply's assumed I was a rascist republican man... not true... Also - I have never EVER seen soooo many downrates. :( Don't worry about it though. Some people will get you, some people won't. It happens.

Perhaps it's the way you 'word' the question that leads people to assume such things.

I only assume that someone asking a controversial question is championing the cause if it is worded in such a way as to include personal bias. I see many questions that are highly controversial worded in such a way as to not indicate personal bias or, if personal opinion included, it is not the overwhelming impression of the question. I know that, if I answer a question like this, even if I disagree with the asker, a pleasant debate is going to arise. I look for questions like this because I truly enjoy them. A good controversial question, especially one I disagree with, is a marvelous way to stimulate thought. On the other hand, there are some that are so bias filled as to scream it. It is all how the asker asks. :)

Three reasons. First, it often happens that those who are fro or against something slant their questions a certain way and they come out sounding very biased and it's clear how the person feels, or people think it's clear. Second, people read their own bias into a controversial question and also see the negative in it, maybe from guilt or they feel they are being accused somehow. Third, any controversial question will get flack from SOMEBODY!

Wonderful question! Sometimes it doesn't matter how you ask the question, if it's controversial it draws strong responses, particularly negative ones. It's a bit like being a tall poppy - if you're brightly coloured and stand out above the rest, you attract criticism. But careful wording does help... people don't like being baited - they react powerfully to provocative statements.

I guess they just dont know your true motive.
