  • 7-8 grand, get a used toyota or honda or nissan. if u have more questions just let me know
  • If you want a used car, from a person, not a dealer, I would say 2 to 3 thousand dollars (at a dealer the same car would cost between 6 and 9 thousand dollars, they stick quite a mark-up). I like Mazdas, Hondas, and Toyotas. But I know there are a lot more to choose from. The most important thing is to bring it to a mechanic that you trust to have it checked out even if you have to pay 50 to 100 to have it checked, it will save you a lot of headaches. I would buy 2003-04-05-06. I've seen good cars for 1500, but that's like looking for a needle in a hay stack, usually someone who has a problem, a divorce or something like that.
  • Hi, When buying a used car, which I always do. I take it to a mechanic that I trust and have all the major things checked out. If you don't know any, ask a friend who they trust! Always do this!!!!!!!! Oh and a good used car.......around 3 or 4 thousand. Where you live maybe more!:)
  • Hi girly- I bought a Honda Accord once for $4,000 from a newspaper ad (i.e. private owner). My mechanic checked it out for $50 and they replaced the muffler based on that. It has been a very reliable car. It had over 100K miles on it and now I have 230K and its running strong. MSN auto (http://autos.msn.com/) rates the overall reliability very clearly and Edmund's will site clear dealer retail price ranges (http://www.edmunds.com/), as well as Consumer Guide Auto(http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/consumer-guide-used-car-search.htm) Happy car hunting! I hope this helps. I'm looking for one for my 16 y/o as we speak. :)
  • I have found that money and reliability do NOT go hand in hand. My wife had a $12,000 used Saturn that caused problems including not one but two blown transmissions. It lasted about as long as my $500 Corolla. Let us look at what I got for just the $2200 it cost her to fix her transmission - '87 Corolla ($500) with new head gasket ($50 DIY), exhaust ($150), and rear struts ($130) - '89 Golf ($350) with new rear shocks ($80 DIY) and muffler ($130) - '90 Civic ($0) that needed a junkyard distributor ($40) ; only lasted about five months but it was free - '91 Civic ($500) with new muffler ($90 DIY) Okay, I do go through a lot of cars, and that is only half my list over that last 7 years, but add up the dollar amounts. The one I spent the most on only lasted about a month longer than the free Honda and the one that lasted the longest was only $500. **** Now, define "decent". My idea of decent is good MPG, good recall history, no MAJOR repairs needed (I do a bit of my own work), and I care little for frills. I have a stereo that I've moved between three cars so far, have no need for in-ceiling DVD players, etcetera. Most reliable would be Toyota, though Honda, Mazda, and Subaru also do quite well. If you want reliability, forget the Big Three.
  • 2 thousand can get you a good 10 year old car. i would buy a copy of consumer reports or consumer guide that rates used cars...best 10 and worst 10... ive usually bought tauruses or bonnevilles. i know toyotas and hondas etc are better but they are also more expensive. a good v6, 3000 , 3200, 3800 engine (size of engine) are the most dependable. 4 cylinders are cheaper but wear out faster and have lots more trouble especially on a used vehicle. a good 1999 - 2003 taurus or bonneville can be bought for under 3000 easily. but remember, even after you buy a good used car, you are going to have toi spend about a thousand dollars the first year on repairs and replacements...count on it. get lifetime parts and your maintainance over the next few years drops to almost nothing. and when youre ready to trade up it will still be worth 2 - 3000 dollars good luck make sure you take it to a mechanic before you buy it...spending 50 dollars 2 or 3 time s till you find a great car is well worth it
  • I usually look for a car priced around $1500-1700. But figure that the money you save up front will go into bringing it up to snuff. And it helps if you can do most of the work yourself.
  • and jeeps are the toughest cars i have one i have owned for 3yrs now
  • VISIT AN AUCTION! YOU CAN GET A 5 YEAR OLD CAR FOR ABOUT 2000- 5000 DOLLARS. (CA)
