Heres a trick. Somtimes you can see in your backyard. Say if you built like a play sructure in 2006, then if you see it, you know that the pictures were taken after that, if you don`t see it, then they were taken before 2006!

if you look in the bottom corner it shud tell you the date of when it was taken. its random wahatever picture is looked up more gets updated quicker but usally one or two years if you live in a wel populated area

The picture of my house was taken in 1999. The pictures are deliberately not the latest ones. The latest pictures are valuable for commercial organisations, and are therefore sold at quite a high price. But images a few years old are no longer very useful for business use, so Google can license them for Google Earth for not too mauch money.

different dates for different areas of the world. my house was recently updated from 2006 to 2008 and I can tell it was from the camper that is no longer in my yard. the lower portion of the screen should tell you the copyright date of that particular picture.
