Yes, and only people 16 and over should watch movies with cars. </sarcasm> Not everyone is as easily influenced by the media as the hegemon would have us believe. If a person is driven to smoke after watching a movie with smoking in it, then they should probably reevaluate their lives. Also, this question makes for a good discussion, +

Yes. I inculcates smoking habbits among teens.

No. People have free will. They should be able to decide for themselves. Smoking is a choice no matter what anyone says. Less government is better in this case.

No, it's a ridiculous idea. If you are going to do this then what about people drinking alcohol in films (and a whole host of other things).

Oh hell no, then we'd have to take out sex, violence and almost everything out of all movies. And as said already, if someone picks up smoking because they saw it in a movie and thought it was cool, then they're pretty much a hopeless cause, or there's something to be said for the child's parents who can't find better ways to inspire their children. All this calming the disapproval of the bubble people mobs with censorship pisses me off, and we don't need people not drinking or smoking in movies or have them re-rated to make it worse. Censorship and denial cause maturity stagnation as far as realism goes, and I think that itself alone creates more stupid pick ups of influence then it does if you explain to people when they're young the dangers of cigarettes or drinking, as well as the line between fiction and reality.

Yes. Any insinuation of sex should be restricted to 18 as well, and any depictions of murder or violence should be banned, for it is illegal at any age. Actually, ban movies entirely, that'll make them happy, won't it?

I can see people smoking in public in real life at any age.. why take it out of theatres, that gonna make it go away? Nah, it might reduce some of the people from smoking, but the cigarette companies aren't going to sit idly by while there money goes down the drain, they would boost there comercial advertisement, and then well.. guess no one under 18 should be able to watch t.v. or get on the internet either.

I don't think so. I watched a lot of movies with smoking when I was a kid. It actually had more of a negative effect on me NOT to smoke, as Bette Davis and Paul Henried in "Now Voyager."
