According to my experience the percentage of helpful people differ according to places. The places where people have high amount of exposure and high literacy rate hold high percentage of helpful people.

Most people will help others without any promise of a reward. This is becoming more and more clear, as the understanding of our basic make up grows. It is now believed that part of our evolution has been as a result of this type of act. Recent studies have shown that there are pleasure hormones released when an act of kindness or altruism is performed. In addition to survival of the "fittest", it is becoming increasingly that acts of kindness are also a survival trait.
