When we accidently hit our thumb with a hammer, why do we hop around on one leg while we hold the injured thumb?

We do that for the entertainment of our friends who are pointing and laughing at our pain.

I don't do that. My thumb goes straight in my mouth. It's the only time I ever suck my thumb. LOL
